First Session Route

A practical opening route for turning a fresh Bridger Western slot into stable money, gear, and direction.

Updated Apr 11, 2026

Start simple: get access, make money, buy stable gear, then branch into stands or cards.

1. Pick The Best Starting Spawn

Choose a spawn that gets you to service NPCs and reliable economy loops quickly. If you are learning the game, convenience matters more than a stylish outlaw start.

2. Learn The Early Essentials

Before you fight anyone:

  • press M and learn where age and slot info live
  • test X so you understand ocular prowess timing
  • check your current spawn and where you can realistically move next

That removes a lot of the early confusion that gets new players killed.

3. Choose One Early Money Route

ProfileCore loopWhy pick it
SafeFishing loopLowest variance start on a weak slot
BalancedEncounters + Can QuestBetter tempo without full PvP commitment
AggressivePvP-focused roamingHighest volatility, strongest if your mechanics are already reliable

Your safest early choices remain:

  • NPC ambushes outside the safer zones
  • Can Quest wagers if you are comfortable using ocular prowess
  • fishing if you want lower-variance income

Avoid forcing PvP too early unless you already know the map and combat rhythm.

4. Follow Early Budget Checkpoints

Budget bandWhat to do firstWhat to avoid
150 moolaSafe profile: buy Fishing Rod (150). Non-fishing starts: secure one cheap utility path (for example Knives 8 or Lantern 80).Avoid cosmetic spending.
300-500 moolaAdd bait (15) only if you are actively fishing, and keep ammo economy healthy (Ammo Pack around 5).Do not spend this band on vanity rerolls.
800+ moolaStart evaluating stronger horse offers. Keep a reroll reserve because each stable reroll costs 20.Do not all-in the first horse listing.

Early purchases should usually be:

  • ammo support
  • one or two practical utilities
  • a weapon route that matches your current tier

Do not overbuy cosmetics or fringe tools before you can replace lost gear.

5. Delay Cards And Mud Witch Spending

Cards and stand wipes are powerful, but Mud Witch is not an opening stop unless you already have moola to spare.

The order should usually be:

  1. basic economy
  2. stable combat loadout
  3. only then card rolls or stand chasing

6. Chase Rare Drops Only After Stabilizing

This is especially true for:

  • corpse parts
  • Arrow Shards
  • rusted Mare's Leg

All of them become much better once your slot can survive the trip home.

If you get an Arrow Shard, treat it as immediate progression because it cannot be banked or dropped.

7. Transition Into Midgame

Your opening route is complete once you have:

  • a repeatable moola source
  • a spawn you are comfortable using
  • a stable weapon setup
  • enough confidence to start using cards, quests, or stand routes on purpose

At that point, move into the system pages and start building with intent.
